Crane Building Services & Utilities were pleased to have Chris Parsloe of Parsloe Consulting present their CPD on Variable Flow Systems at M&E 2009 exhibition. The presentation was well attended and received by a very knowledgeable audience. Chris is the author of several BSRIA publications and is presently involved with the rewriting of the CIBSE Commissioning Codes W and BSRIA Application Guide.

The presentation,Variable Flow Systems incorporating Differential Pressure Control Valves (DPCV’s), covered the affects of variable flow:

on 2 port control valves
risk of cavitation
positioning DPCV's in terminal branches
commissioning DPCV's
pump speed control
location of pressure sensors

The presentation finished by outlining the concept of Flow Management Systems in the form of a centralised valve module.
