Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport

The largest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom

Opened in March 2008, Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport is the largest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom able to handle 35 million people a year at capacity.

The project included not only the main terminal building, but satellite buildings, a new transit system, a rail station, and even required two rivers to be diverted around the site.  The excavation alone uncovered over 80,000 archaeological finds at the dig site.
